Troublesome Topic: FAITH TEACHES US HOW TO BE LIKE GOD
Faith is one of the tools God uses to teach us what He is like and help us learn to live with His character traits as our own. Of course, faith is accompanied by a host of other spiritual disciplines; it never stands alone.
I trust that you have seen that God’s holiness and mercy work together and are actually two parts of one whole; they are not polar opposites. Not only are holiness and mercy attributes that characterize God, they should be attributes that characterize us as well, in a growing and maturing manner. Faith fits with the other two because, through faith-filled obedience, we reject selfishness and exchange our will for God’s will. Through faith we release what is holding us back and open the door for God to take us to the next level in our walk with Him. Through faith, trust and obedience we learn to reflect God’s traits of holiness and mercy. I am convinced that we don’t learn holiness by itself; we learn it as we learn faith and trust. We don’t learn mercy by itself either, it is a byproduct of a close walk with God where we are slowly taking on some of His characteristics, such as compassion and mercy.
God knew what He was doing when He gave the Israelites a system of laws that taught principles related to faith, holiness and compassion.
The next lesson is SO HOW DID THIS WORK?
