Troublesome Topic: CARING MEANS SELF-SACRIFICE
Lesson 8 of 18It is unfortunate that in America, and in a few other parts of the world, we are being taught that caring means to hold a certain political position on an issue. Those who disagree with that position are viewed as uncaring.
But the Bible teaches a different metric for caring. We should measure caring by the level of self-sacrifice involved. In this way we see that God really does care about us, even though He demands things from us that are not easy.
It usually costs nothing to hold the “caring” political position.
Doing something to help the people in need will cost you time, money, effort, and mental focus. It may also cost you something in terms of how you are viewed by your peers; your association with the needy and helpless can make you look bad to those that only care about their own image.
We must reject the metric of politics and use the metric the Bible teaches; caring is measured by self-sacrifice. May God help us to be more like Him in giving ourselves to others. By giving ourselves I mean giving every part of us, not just the easy act of giving money.
