Troublesome Topic: ISAIAH 14 SATAN IS CAST OUT OF HEAVEN
Lesson 13 of 19Isaiah 14:12-15 is the passage from which we learn that Satan was thrown out of heaven for his arrogance. Michael Heiser rejects this interpretation on the grounds that the context does not fit the presumed timing of Satan being cast out. In Isaiah 14 the passage is talking about the king of Babylon, but verses 12-15 refer to both the king of Babylon and to Satan. That section has double meaning. As is typical of these situations, the second meaning more fully fulfills what is said than the first meaning. And of course, the two fulfillments will not fit the same temporal context.
