Troublesome Topic: JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN’T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING DOESN’T MAKE IT WRONG

I taught science classes at a Christian School for five years. One of those years I had a student in Chemistry class who could not wrap his mind around the standard definitions of endothermic and exothermic chemical reactions, and because they did not make sense to him, he was convinced that they were wrong. Did the fact that he did not understand them make them wrong?

There are many people today who employ that line of thinking when looking at the Bible. There are many critics and doubters who find something in the Bible that they do not agree with and immediately assume that the Bible is wrong about that topic, or that the Bible is wrong altogether. Like my Chemistry student, they don’t want to work hard at studying the Bible to understand it fully; rather they want to make an accusation and prove the Bible wrong.

If we don’t watch out, any of us can do the same thing. But remember, just because we don’t understand something in the Bible doesn’t make the Bible wrong. Instead of criticizing, we should study it with greater intensity than we ever have; we will likely find that God knew what He was doing all along.
