Strange Story: Esther 3-10 The Rest of Queen Esther’s Life

She was chosen queen at the end of the 7th year of King Xerxes, and the edict of Haman went out at the beginning of the king’s 12th year. That means Esther had been queen for just over 4 years. That would be enough time for her to have given birth to a few children by the time things got tense with Haman.

The date set by Haman for the extermination of the Jews was in the 12th month of that same year, the 12th year, but the extermination never happened. Instead, Haman was exposed shortly after he convinced King Xerxes to follow his plan, and Haman was impaled on the elevated pole he had erected for Mordecai.

At that time Mordecai was elevated to second in command of the empire and it appears that he served in that capacity until the end of Xerxes reign, but I am not sure of that.

21 years into his reign, Xerxes was killed when the commander of the royal body guard, Artabanus, assassinated him and the throne went to one of his sons who had the name, or took the name, Artaxerxes. All those close to the king would have been killed as well, including Esther and all of Esther’s children. We are not told if Mordecai was still second in command by year 21 of Xerxes’ reign, but if he was, he would was eliminated at the same time.
