Genesis1:27

Translation

So ELOHIM

created man in His own image; in the image of ELOHIM He created him,

Paraphrase

So THE CREATOR AND OWNER OF ALL THINGS created man in His own image; in the image of THE CREATOR AND OWNER OF ALL THINGS Himself He created him, as distinctly male and female entities He created them.

This is a singular particle (“him”) whereas the one at the end of the verse if plural (“them.”) However, it was common usage of the time to use the masculine forms as representative of both genders. Here it is a reference to mankind and includes male and female. The next clause differentiates between male and female so the plural is used. In this text we will continue to use the forms the Scripture uses.
