The fig tree

the blossoming vines

“Arise, come, my Love;

my handsome one, come with me.”

Paraphrase

We are beginning to see the benefits of peace and divine favor;

confidence in a beauty-filled and prosperous future is catching on.”

I responded, “Arise, come, my Love,

My handsome one, come with me.”

The fruitfulness of the fig tree was seen as a sign of peace and divine favor. Its failure to produce was a national calamity.

Anything in its blossoming stage, before it begins to show wear or lose its pristine beauty, refers to beauty or a blessing that is imminent. Imminence is the focus. Reference to the vine brings in the concept of a prosperous future.
